FREE HORIZON KANKEN ART BY TEKLA EVELINA SEVERIN

Kånken Art ‘22 “Free Horizon” by Tekla Evelina Severin is based on the lines and spaces found in nature. What is more open and constant than the horizon line, where the sea or land meets the sky? The Swedish designer, photographer, and also colorist, Tekla Evelina Severin, was inspired by the straightforward design of Kanken. She decided to seek out similar compositions in nature.

WHAT IS BIGGER THAN A FREE HORIZON?

“The straightforward design of Kånken inspired me to seek out similar compositions in nature. I found strong visual connections in their natural lines, pattern repetitions, and symmetries. And the horizon is always the same, yet constantly changing."

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE COLOUR?

“Color is fundamental to everything I do, and I’m forever fascinated by its strong power. Color is never absolute, and its meaning changes relative to what you put next to it. And nobody does color like nature.”

WHAT DO YOU WISH FROM KANKEN ART "FREE HORIZON"?

“I hope Kånken Art ‘22 will get people out into nature to discover its colors and hopefully inspire them too.”

WHAT INSPIRED YOU FOR KANKEN ART 2022?

"In terms of color, I was inspired by warm and sunny latitudes, rugged archipelago cliffs, and glowing poppy fields bathed in pink sunsets. The large and small details work together to create the main composition and are important parts of the whole. At the same time, they create worlds of their own.”
